Vulnerability Scanning

Quarterly PCI DSS ASV scanning, and risk-based vulnerability management on Qualys or Tenable.

Two services. Compliance proof and real risk reduction.

We offer two related services. ASV scanning is the formal external scan that PCI DSS requires every quarter. It runs through an approved scanning service, and our PCI team helps you through to a passing report. Prioritised vulnerability management is an ongoing program on Qualys or Tenable. It finds weak spots across IT, cloud, identity, network and operational systems, ranks them by real risk and drives the fixes. Both are run by certified Vectra staff.

Vulnerability Scanning

Compliance proof and security operations do different jobs.

ASV vulnerability scanning

Formal PCI DSS external scanning.

  • Covers your external, internet-facing systems
  • Runs on a quarterly compliance cycle
  • Follows the ASV Program Guide method
  • Ends in an official passing report
  • Gives evidence for PCI validation
Prioritised vulnerability management

Ongoing risk reduction all year.

  • Covers internal, cloud, endpoint, network and external assets
  • Uses authenticated and agent-based checks
  • Ranks findings by risk
  • Drives the work to fix them
  • Reports and improves all the time

A passing ASV scan does not prove full PCI DSS compliance.

ASV scanning checks one specific external scanning requirement. PCI DSS compliance also depends on your wider technical, operational and governance controls, and on the right annual validation process.

ASV scanning

What PCI DSS v4.0.1 Requirement 11.3.2 expects.

PCI DSS needs proof of passing external scans run by a PCI SSC Approved Scanning Vendor (ASV). The scans must cover the required external attack surface. Failed findings must be fixed, and rescans must confirm the pass.

We do more than hand you a scan portal. Our PCI team supports the whole cycle.

  • At least once every three months

External ASV scans are normally needed each quarter. We manage the timing across the reporting period.

  • After significant change

An extra external scan may be needed when big changes affect in-scope systems or your external attack surface.

  • Through an approved ASV service

A general vulnerability scan does not replace the formal ASV scanning and reporting that PCI DSS requires.

  • A passing result and official evidence

Vulnerabilities must be fixed and rescans run until the ASV Program Guide pass rules are met. The report comes in the required PCI format.

ASV scanning

From scan scope to passing evidence, every quarter.

ASV compliance depends on the right scope, reliable scans, quick fixes and a clean rescan. Launching a scan is only one part.

Scope

Confirm the scope

Find every internet-facing system and e-commerce asset that must be included.

Prepare

Get ready to scan

Approve the scan, confirm who owns each asset and make sure protective controls won’t void the result.

Scan

Run the scan

Run the approved external scan against the confirmed scope.

Fix

Remediate

Review failures, fix vulnerabilities and record valid disputes or exceptions.

Rescan

Confirm the pass

Check the fixes and produce the official passing ASV scan report.

ASV scanning

Practical support across the whole scan cycle.

Onboarding

Portal and service set-up

Set up access, contacts, scan targets, approved users and a recurring scan schedule.

Scoping

External asset check

PCI advisory

Scans linked to compliance

Align ASV scanning with your wider PCI DSS scope, validation method and yearly compliance program.

ASV scanning

Who may need ASV scanning.

The exact requirement depends on your PCI DSS validation path, how your payments are built and which systems can be reached from outside.

Merchants

Internet-facing payment systems

Public systems that are part of, connect to, or can affect the security of the cardholder data environment.

  • Public IP addresses
  • Services reachable from outside
  • Payment-related web infrastructure
  • Remote access and perimeter services
Service providers

Platforms that support customer payments

Providers whose services store, process or send customer account data, or can affect its security.

  • Hosting and cloud services
  • Payment applications
  • Managed infrastructure
  • Shared-service platforms
SAQ A e-commerce

Websites that redirect or embed payments

Under PCI DSS v4.x, some SAQ A e-commerce merchants also need ASV scans of the systems that host their web pages.

  • Redirect payment journeys
  • Embedded payment forms
  • Merchant-hosted web pages
  • Public web infrastructure
ASV scanning

ASV scanning backed by experienced PCI specialists.

Vectra pairs ASV scanning with one of Australia’s most experienced PCI consulting teams. That helps you move from a failed scan to a practical fix plan and compliance evidence you can defend.

  • More than 20 years in payment security

Long experience supporting PCI DSS programs for Australian organisations.

  • Help beyond the scan result

Advice on scope, findings, fixes, rescans and what evidence you need.

  • Linked to wider PCI services

QSA assessment, SAQ help, penetration testing and compliance advice when you need them.

  • Clear advice for technical teams

We turn scanner output into fixes you can act on, not just a report.

  • Managed every quarter

We keep the schedule, target scope, report access and evidence in order all year.

  • Single sites to complex enterprises

We support simple merchant setups and large estates with many public services.

Prioritised vulnerability management

Find the weaknesses. Fix what matters first.

Vulnerability management is more than running scans. A mature program keeps track of every asset, uses authenticated checks, adds business and threat context, drives the fixes and proves that risk has actually gone down.

Vulnerability management

A continuous program in five steps.

Discover

Find every asset

Find known, unknown, unmanaged, cloud and externally exposed assets.

Assess

Find the weaknesses

Use agents, scanners, connectors and authenticated checks to find weak spots.

Prioritise

Rank by real risk

Combine severity, how easy it is to exploit, how critical the asset is and live threat context. CVSS scores alone are not enough.

Remediate

Drive the fixes

Assign owners, connect to your workflows and coordinate patches or other fixes.

Validate

Prove it worked

Rescan, measure results and show that risk keeps going down.

Vulnerability management
