AI Security Consultant

AI Security Engineering & Implementation - Presales and Delivery

Start date: 15 February 2027

Role overview

This is a hands-on, client-facing role for a security engineer with a consulting mindset and a strong interest in artificial intelligence, ready to grow their career in Vectra's AI Security practice. It combines two key functions:

  • Presales Support - providing technical input in the sales cycle, building demonstrations and proof-of-concepts, and helping senior consultants scope engagements.
  • Delivery Consultant - configuring, integrating and implementing AI security solutions that give clients visibility and control over how AI is used, protect the data flowing into AI, and secure the AI applications and agents they build.

This is not a sales role and carries no individual sales quota. You will work alongside senior consultants, Business Development and Account Directors, and will be supported by mentoring, vendor training and certification to build your expertise. You will report to the General Manager.

Key responsibilities

Presales

  • Support senior consultants, BDMs and Account Directors in client meetings and discovery workshops by providing technical input on AI security solutions.
  • Build and run product demonstrations and proof-of-concepts for ISV AI security solutions, in partnership with vendor presales teams.
  • Gather technical requirements, document how clients use and build AI, and contribute to effort estimates, solution designs and Statements of Work.
  • Contribute technical content to proposals and RFP/tender responses.

Delivery - AI Security Implementation

  • Install, configure and implement AI security platforms across AI usage discovery (shadow AI), AI security posture management (AI-SPM), AI gateways and guardrails, and AI runtime protection.
  • Configure controls that protect sensitive data used by AI, including data loss prevention, sensitivity labelling and access policies for generative AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot and ChatGPT Enterprise.
  • Integrate AI security tools with clients' identity, cloud (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud), SaaS and security operations platforms, including forwarding AI security events to SIEM.
  • Apply secure configuration to AI platforms and services such as Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI and AWS Bedrock, including access control, network isolation, logging and content filtering.
  • Implement controls for AI agents and non-human identities, working with the Identity practice on permissions, credentials and least-privilege access.

Delivery - AI Security Engineering

  • Write scripts and automation (e.g. Python, PowerShell) and work with REST APIs to extend and integrate AI security platforms.
  • Support AI security testing, including running automated LLM and agent testing tools (e.g. PyRIT, garak, promptfoo) against risks such as prompt injection, jailbreaks and data leakage, alongside Offensive Security colleagues.
  • Apply engineering practices including version control, infrastructure-as-code where appropriate, automated testing and documentation.
  • Troubleshoot integration and performance issues, and support testing, deployment, cutover and handover to client operations teams.

Delivery - Advisory

  • Help deliver AI security and governance assessments, Copilot and generative AI readiness reviews, and AI threat modelling (e.g. OWASP Top 10 for LLM Applications, MITRE ATLAS) under the guidance of senior consultants.
  • Support the mapping of technical controls to AI governance frameworks such as ISO/IEC 42001, the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and Australian Government AI guidance.
  • Produce clear deliverables - configuration documents, build guides, test plans and runbooks - and present progress to client teams.
  • Raise follow-on opportunities you identify during delivery with the account team.

Professional Development

  • Gain and maintain vendor and industry certifications across the AI security platforms Vectra delivers.
  • Contribute to the practice's reusable configurations, test libraries, build templates and accelerators in a fast-moving market.
  • Learn from senior consultants with a clear pathway to a Senior AI Consultant role.

What we're looking for

  • 3 - 5 years in cyber security, cloud security, security engineering or a related technical role, including at least 1 - 2 years implementing security solutions, ideally in a consulting, professional services or client-facing delivery environment.

  • Hands-on experience with security platforms relevant to AI, such as Microsoft Purview and Defender, SASE/SSE and data security platforms, or dedicated AI security tools.

  • A practical understanding of how generative AI and LLM applications work (e.g. RAG, agents, Microsoft Copilot, Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock) and of their key security risks, such as prompt injection, data leakage and excessive agency.

  • Working knowledge of cloud security, identity and data protection fundamentals across Microsoft 365, Azure and AWS.

  • Scripting and integration skills (e.g. Python, PowerShell, REST APIs).

  • Awareness of AI governance frameworks (ISO/IEC 42001, NIST AI RMF) and security frameworks such as the Essential Eight and ISO 27001.

  • A client-focused, curious and organised approach, with good written and verbal communication skills and confidence working with technical and business stakeholders.

  • Relevant certifications (e.g. Microsoft SC-401, AZ-500 or AI-102, or AI security certifications) are highly regarded.

  • Eligibility for, or an existing, Australian Government security clearance is an advantage.

Benefits

Competitive salary, flexible working arrangements, funded vendor and industry certifications, and strong training and career development opportunities within a growing cybersecurity business. This is a consulting role with a utilisation and presales contribution focus; it does not carry an individual sales quota.
