With over a decade of experience across multiple racing categories, Chris Smerdon has built a strong reputation as a skilled, consistent, and reliable driver. Having competed on some of Australia’s most demanding circuits, he continues to demonstrate his ability to adapt and perform under pressure.

In 2026, Smerdon remains part of the Matt Stone Racing stable while expanding his program into the TA2 Muscle Car Series. Driving a Chevrolet Camaro, he made his debut with the team at the season opener at The Bend Motorsport Park, joining a competitive grid of both experienced drivers and emerging talent.

A veteran of Australian touring car racing, Smerdon first entered the scene in 1992 with a Perkins Engineering-built VL Commodore. Competing as a privateer throughout the 1990s, he gained experience in categories such as V8 Brutes before progressing through the ranks of touring car competition.

He secured the V8 Touring Car Series title in 2008 and has remained a consistent presence in the category through its evolution into Super3 in 2019, continuing to bring experience and depth to every grid he joins.

The TA2 Muscle Car Series is one of Australia’s fastest-growing racing categories, built around high-powered V8 muscle cars and close, competitive racing. Originating from the American Trans-Am concept, the series was introduced to Australia in 2017 and now features as a headline category in the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series.

TA2 cars are purpose-built race machines that combine classic muscle car styling with modern racing engineering.

Since winning the Championship in 2008, he has been a mainstay of the class from its grass roos as the Kuhmo V8 Touring Car Series through now running under its current Super3 Series banner.
